Singer/multi-instrumentalist/composer Taj Mahal appeared on the national music scene with his self-titled debut album in 1967, a semi-mysterious young man emulating the blues guys who were then attracting attention from young white rockers. Mahal isn’t white, but he does come from a highly educated middle-class New England background — as well as a culturally diverse one.
That diversity, as well as his interest in a wide range of cultures, has been increasingly reflected his music as his now four-and-a-half-decade career has rolled on. African, Caribbean, European, and American roots influences have been joined by Hawaiian ones since he moved to that state in the ’80s.
Mahal will perform at the Kent Stage.
Tickets are $33.75-$60.
