Charles Worth, now 27, has been kicking around Cleveland’s hip hop scene for nearly a decade, most of that time under the name Chip tha Ripper. He’s been churning out mixtapes and collaborating with an army of other rappers and vocalists, both famous and obscure, including members of Cleveland’s biggest ever rap export, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
It was his friendship and work with another, almost-as-big hip hop artist — Solon’s Kid Cudi, who broke out in a big way in 2009-2010 — that helped gain him widespread exposure that he used to ferret out other opportunities, including work with Kids in the Hall.
Two years ago, he changed his performing name to King Chip, but that doesn’t seem to have changed much. He’s continued to collaborate with Cudi; he’s kept doing his mixtape release including last fall’s 44108, the zip code of Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood.
Worth was a regular at the old, now demolished, Peabody’s. Now that the Peabody’s folks have moved over to the Agora, he’s got a show booked there. Yung Luv and Cee Cee Kokayne open.
Tickets are $17 in advance, $22 at the door.
