What a line up! CoolCleveland Correspondent Marty Bielat met up with Melt Bar & Grilled Owner Matt Fish at his store in Mentor to talk about what’s hot on this summer’s menu. From the way it looked, this season’s menu has to be one of the best yet.
Matt certainly had it right when he said,”It’s a food fiesta” when we were enjoying the sandwiches on their patio. In addition to the sandwiches, it was also nice to hear about his new store close to Easton, in Columbus, and to see a new salad/cocktail combo.
Guitarist John Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music falls somewhere between post-bop jazz and R&B. He has recorded more than 30 albums as a leader and collaborator. Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews) continues to push the envelope, happily blending jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, soul and that special something that comes out of New Orleans.
The two form a double bill beginning at 7:15PM on Fri 6/27 at the Palace Theatre at part of the 35th annual Tri-C JazzFest. Got your tickets? Get ’em here.

Check out this video about the 27-day Summer Reading Academy, now in the enviable position of experiencing waves of students attending this summer school program to improve their reading scores.
“In a way it is the kind of problem you want to have, and its a good sign that having it right away in the summer will push our numbers up,” said Karen Thompson, deputy chief of curriculum and instruction.
The third-grade reading guarantee means those students must attend, but the good news is the program is also attracting students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Watch the video.

It didn’t take gazing into a crystal ball for anyone to prognosticate that more militant members of the black community would mount a protest claiming that justice wasn’t served, and demanding that the other 12 Cleveland police officers involved in the infamous “137 shots” heard virtually round the world be indicted…

MANSFIELD: Tim McGinty – Man in the Middle
I was a police officer in the 70’s. A big part of my training was about use of force laws. We watched films called “shoot, don’t shoot” that showed us the very fine line which allowed an officer to justifiably shoot because they or others were in serious danger, and when not to shoot because the immediate threat had ended….

Its called “the 137” or “the Cleveland Atrocity”….
