Trumpeter and retired Oberlin jazz teacher Kenny Davis has a long history as a performer going back to the ’60s when he backed some of R&B’s biggest stars as a member of the house band at Cleveland’s legendary Leo’s Casino.
He’s still plenty active as a performer, leading the C-Town Jazz Quintet, for which he’s recruited four other talented local jazz musicians: pianist Davis Thomas, a veteran musician and educator with a resume almost as long as Davis’, bassist Gary Stevenson, who also plays with Cleveland’s long-running jazz/funk/pop ensemble Forecast, and young, up-and-coming musicians, sax player Ide Ebose, and drummer Elijah Gilmore (pictured).
They’ll play their R&B-influenced jazz in a return visit to Nighttown.
Tickets are $10.
