We were shocked and dismayed to hear from Cool Cleveland correspondent Josh Usmani that undercover police raided Loren Naji’s gallery in Ohio City, apparently for offering free wine, cheese and beer at his opening, just as every art gallery in this and every other civilized community has done for decades. It will be interesting to see if the police and the administration start cracking down on the very artist entrepreneurs who have stimulated whatever renaissance our region is experiencing. Read the story, view the videos and add your voice to the chorus. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.Maybe it’s finally time to look North for our future. Erin Huber of Drink Local Drink Tap certainly does, inspiring people to value and protect our water as a basic necessity of life. Another necessity: new ideas and new art, as in CPH’s New Ground Theatre Festival. Doubting Thomas features five female artists in 5 rooms. The Ohio City Theatre Project hosts free radicals, while the Happy Dog hosts stories.
Cloud Nothings and Mushroomhead have conquered the world, and now return to re-conquer their hometown. The Cleveland Flea and The Hooley also make triumphant returns, and The Maltz begins the conversation. We hope to change how we think about the toll traffic takes on our communities, and we suggest ways we can experience some of the 200 wineries in Ohio. Water or wine, in our opinion, either one is fine. –Thomas Mulready

Tremont’s Doubting Thomas Gallery isn’t a stereotypical “white cube” exhibition space. The gallerys regular cast of curators have developed strategies to take advantage of the oddly shaped space.
This is especially true of curator and photographer Natalia Dale — who was inspired by the gallery’s divided floorplan. Her latest exhibition, 5 in the Fifth, features 5 local female artists in each of Doubting Thomas’ five “rooms…”

The Hooley is back! For it’s 5th year in a row, Kamm’s Corners’ kick off to the summer festival, “The Hooley,” is hitting the streets of Lorain once again. This fun festival, centered around the neighborhood’s Irish culture, is filled with great food, live music, children’s shows and activities, Irish dancers, pipes and drums, and so much more.
CoolCleveland Correspondent Marty Bielat met up with Kamm’s Corners Development Corp.’s Steve Lorenz and Jason Salupo of West Park Station at his restaurant, and fired off some questions. It was great to hear about all of the fun activities planned for that Saturday, in addition to Lorenz telling us about a $25,000 dollar Rugby Toss Contest! If that wasn’t enough, Salupo swooped right in and made our mouth’s water with the description of the festival’s delicious food.

Police have come two different times to my gallery in Canton Ohio checking for alcohol. We were even called our once for serving coffee during a downtown public event. They said we had no liscence permitting us to serve food, drinks or alcohol. Crazy!!….
