Cleveland-Born Jazz Singer Vanessa Rubin Back at Nighttown

Fri 5/30 @ 8:30PM

Sat 5/31 @ 8:30PM

Vocalist Vanessa Rubin is making her way back to Nighttown where her holiday shows were apparently so well received, she’s got two weekend evening slots. Rubin left her native Cleveland to attend The Ohio State University, and then moved onto New York in the ’80s.

There she found opportunities to perform with legendary jazz acts like Herbie Hancock, the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Jazz Crusaders, and Toots Thielemans. In recent years, she’s gotten kudos for her one-woman Billie Holiday show, as well as for her own interpretations of Holiday songs she performs in her concert sets.

Last year, she released Full Circle, a collaboration with sax played Don Braden. When she comes to Nighttown this time, she’ll be accompanied by Braden, organist Kyle Koehler, and drummer Cecil Brooks.

Tickets are $25.
