It’s a big deal in the classical music world to win the biennial Cleveland International Piano Competition, as Ukrainian pianist Stanislav Kristenko did last year.
Young pianists from around the world converge on Cleveland to vie for top honors in the prestigious contest, which virtually guarantee a successful concert career.
Khristenko’s victory followed on the heels of his taking first prize in the 2013 Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona, Spain. And he’s already performed from coast to coast, all over Europe, and in Japan and Hong Kong.
He’ll be making his solo Carnegie Hall debut in New York City on May 19. But before he does, he’ll be previewing the program he’ll play right here in Cleveland on some familiar ground: the Kulas Auditorium at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He studied at CIM as a full scholarship student with internationally celebrated concert pianist Sergei Babayan, the 1989 winner of the Cleveland competition, then known as Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition.
The performance is sponsored by the Cleveland International Piano Competition.
Tickets are $25 and $35.
