Navihanke bills itself as “Those Sassy Polka Girls from Slovenia.” Judging from their photos, they look pretty sassy. At least they show a lot of leg.
Their music is a lively mélange of polka, other Slovenian folk music, pop, and ethnic music from other parts of the world. And the quartet sounds and looks like they’re lively and entertaining in concert.
They’re out on a tour now that’s being sponsored by Slovenian organizations in the various cities they’re hitting. The mission, they say, is “to promote awareness and appreciation of Slovenian music and culture and to strengthen friendship ties between the two nations.”
Here in Cleveland, of course, the show is being sponsored by the Cleveland-style [aka Slovenian] Polka Hall of Fame and the American Slovenian Polka foundation. It takes place at St. Mary’s Church Auditorium.
Tickets are $15, $12 for Polka Hall of Fame Members.
