Tremont’s Literary Tavern was a longtime hangout for the local artsy crowd, a real neighborhood tavern that hosting meetings, art shows, poetry readings, community drawing events and more. Even if on the shabby side, “the Lit” was where you found all the local “characters.”
In 2016, the Lit, in a 150-year-old building, was sold and closed for renovation, and finally, after a long wait, reopened in mid 2019. Part of the renovation included the addition of a kitchen, which serves sandwiches, light bites, salads and entrees, making hanging out even more appealing. And of course, the bar still serves up a wide choice of beers, along with wines and cocktails. Upgrading and adding a little class hasn’t made the old place any less neighbor-friendly!
