Tiki Underground decsribes itself as “a tiki bar for the 21st century.” It opened its exotic doors in early 2017, giving northeast Ohio a second place (along with Ohio City’s Porco Lounge) to enjoy this revival of “tiki-style” food, drink, decor and music in Cuyahoga Falls after moving from suburban Hudson.
The 50s fad for Polynesian/Hawaiian-themed accoutrements includes outdoor-style furnishings, palm trees, tiki-mask sculptures, tropical cocktails and the tiki torches that more recently became known as a white nationalist symbol. (Tiki bars were first!)
The Kahuna Kings serve as the house band, playing monthly gigs, and the bar offers cocktails made with locally distilled spirits and serves wines from Cleveland Heights’ CLE Urban Winery. In addition to things like coconut shrimp, the menu includes favorite non-tropical items such as poutine (Canadian), chicken quesidallas and mozzarella sticks.
