Sax Player Benny Golson Brings Jazz’s Golden Age to Nighttown

Sat 3/15 @ 8 & 10PM

Tenor sax player Benny Golson is one of those musicians who reminds us that jazz is a lifetime vocation.

With years of playing with bands such as Benny Goodman’s, Dizzy Gillespie’s an Lionel Hampton’s, the now 85-year-old doesn’t seem anywhere near ready to stop.

In addition to being a player, he’s a prodigious composer of standards like “Killer Joe,” “Whisper Not,” “Are You Real?” and “Along Came Betty.” He’s also an arranger and scorer, who has written for TV, films and ad spots. His high-profile credits include M.A.S.H., The Bill Cosby Show, and … the Patridge Family!

He’ll be doing two shows at Nighttown with a quartet of the area’s top musicians: pianist Dan Maier, acoustic bassist Dave Morgan, and drummer Glenn Davis.

Tickets are $20-$30.
