Fans of jazz vocals will want to check out Los Angeles-based singer Sara Gazarek, who’ll be performing at Nighttown. She wraps her sensuous alto lightly around the tunes with an understated and unforced delivery that’s a refreshing change from some of the flashy, cutesy or overly emotive styles of other jazz singers. Her subtlety draws you in slowly and hooks you by degrees. She’s also a composer who wrote the majority of the tunes on her latest album, 2012’s Blossom and Bee. She’ll perform as a duo at Nighttown with her music director, pianist Josh Nelson.
