Fingerstyle guitar players seem to be all over the place. Nashville-based Tim Thompson is a noted championship-winning player who’s built a career over several decades. Then he moved into playing in a duo format, finding the other half of the puzzle in his own home — his violin-playing teenager son Myles.
The two recently released an album called Time4Me2Go. It’s their fourth so this duo is already a well-oiled music machine, their familial ties aside. With father Tim writing most of the tunes, both contribute vocals on tracks that run the gamut from country to rock to jazz to folk.
Known for their intuitive improvising, the father-son team makes its debut at Nighttown.
They’ll be joined by northeast Ohioan Dan Bankhurst, an up-and-coming Cleveland entry into the fingerstyle guitar field. He won the grand prize at last fall’s International Home of Legends fingerpicking championship in Muhlenberg, Kentucky and shortly after that celebrated the release of his debut CD At First Sight.
Tickets are $15.
