Made possible through the generous financial support of The Kresge Foundation & Northeast Shores, the Collinwood Rising Vibrancy Grants offer businesses, nonprofits and community groups of the Waterloo Arts & Entertainment District the opportunity to team up with artists to create transformative change in the Waterloo neighborhood.
This innovative grant program has lead to the creation of dozens of new community art projects that enliven the District during their $5.5 million streetscape improvement. Here’s what’s coming up:
Project Boardwalk
Date of Event: May 2nd, 2014 6pm- midnight
Project Location: 16011 Waterloo Rd, SS&W Boardwalk
Details: The Boardwalk will be hosting an open house to share the 7 available rooms above the business to artists looking for affordable studio space. The opening will include a public art installation of artistic plastic people, that will span the street from Arts Collinwood and 156th to Brick and the corner of 161st on Waterloo. The Boardwalk open house is from 6-10pm and entertainment by The Madison Crawl will go from 8pm-12am.
Zoetic Walls Tour
Date of Event: May 2nd 7-9pm
Project Location: 15605 Waterloo,Waterloo Arts Gallery
Details: Waterloo Arts will be giving a tour of the first organized street art in Cleveland. The tour will feature 20 murals in the Waterloo District that features regional, national, and international street artists work. The tour will feature all the murals, answer questions and be followed by a reception at Waterloo Arts for refreshments and live music. The tour will be conducted by Nick Marzullo the projects partner from Pawn Works in Chicago. Nick will share his experience with implementing mural projects in other cities, the history of street art, the impact of these projects from small grass-roots community to larger city wide projects. The event will also be the release of a QR code, that will link a map of all the murals for viewers to navigate a self-directed tour.

Date of Event: Sunday May 4th, 2014 12-3pm
Project Location: 15714 Waterloo Rd, R+D Sausage
Details: The event will bring Cleveland’s Culinary arts community to Waterloo. The Sunday event will include live entertainment, tastings, and cooking demonstrations. The open house will be a MEAT and Greet which will be free and open to the public. The Owner Joe Zuzak, will demonstrate his food expertise from his early culinary training in his native country Croatia! R+D has been a business in the Collinwood Neighborhood for nearly 30 years!
Star Pop vintage +modern Photo Project +Customer Appreciation Event
Date of Event: Saturday May 17th, 6-9pm
Project Location: 15813 Waterloo, Star Pop vintage+modern
Details: Star Pop will be hosting a free party that will include the unveiling of new photo portraits of Star Pops community to be displayed permanently in the store. The art opening is free to the public and will include special sales, snacks, and refreshments at the store. Star Pop buys and sells toys, vintage clothing, classis video games, music, movies, books, art and other pop culture collectibles for kids and collectors of all ages.
Flower Power
Date of Event: May 17th, 2014
Project Location: 15813 Waterloo, Maria Neil Art Project
Details: Maria Neil will celebrate Spring in Collinwood with a photography exhibition, live flower display, neighborhood planting, flower making party and video showcase. Flower Power will feature three photographers and a video installation created by anyone who submits their own photograph. The event will be a celebration free open and to the public, with refreshments.
