What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than listening to a little Beethoven — especially when it’s performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra?
The Amici String Quartet was founded in 1985 by four members of the Cleveland Orchestra. They were apparently so besotted with playing that even being fulltime members of a major orchestra couldn’t satisfy them. Although members have changed since then, the ensemble still comprises four Cleveland Orchestra members — violinists Takako Masame and Miho Hashizume, violist Lynne Ramsey, and cellist Ralph Curry.
The group has maintained an active performance schedule in addition to their orchestra duties, with a special interest in educating young audiences about classical music. They’ll be performing at Tremont’s Pilgrim Congregational Church, where they’ll play two of Beethoven’s late string quartets composed in 1826, the year prior to his death. It’s part of the Arts Renaissance Tremont series.
Best of all, it’s an opportunity to hear world-class music for free, and maybe take a young person you know to open some doors for them. There’s no admission; a freewill donation is taken.
