Happy Dog Co-Owner Sean Kilbane Has Died, Funeral Service Friday

We’ve just learned that Sean Kilbane, who co-owns the Happy Dog at West 58th and Detroit Road, died late Saturday night/early Sunday morning following a fall down some stairs at the club.

“The Seans,” as many called Kilbane and his partner Sean Watterson, took over the vintage Gordon Square bar in 2008 and turned it into the liveliest west side hub for artists, musicians, and hipsters. They launched their menu which features only hot dogs with dozens of topping and sauce choices, and a booking policy which brought in not only some of the area’s best indie bands and touring acts, but classical music, polka, lectures, author events, and forums on various topics.

The partners, including chef Eric Williams, announced late last year that they would be taking over another heritage bar, the Euclid Tavern, in University Circle. They were planning a spring opening.

His obituary and memorial details are here.
