Case Western Reserve University Film Society’s programming continues to fill a void in Cleveland’s rich cinematic landscape. Their schedule of relatively recent releases is always sure to have something nostalgic for everyone.
This weekend, they offer two opportunities to see Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. Crowe’s coming-of-age tale follows 15-year-old William Miller as he gets caught up in the “sex, drugs and rock n roll” of the ’60s during a cross-country trip writing for Rolling Stone magazine. The story is (somewhat loosely) based on Crowe’s own history as a young writer for Rolling Stone.
Due to Crowe’s personal connection to this story, the film has an innocence and sincerity similar to its protagonist. The “heart of gold” script is amplified by great acting and one of the best soundtracks of all time. If you’ve never seen Almost Famous, you don’t want to miss this chance to see it on the “big screen.” Plus, with the recent passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman, this a great chance to see him on the big screen in one of his classic roles.
