Classic Cinema Becomes “The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology” @ClevelandArt’s Film Series

Wed 2/19 + Fri 2/21 @ 6:30pm

What happens when an outspoken philosopher uses Freudian psychoanalysis to connect classic cinema to social and cultural ideologies?  You can find out this week, when the Cleveland Museum of Art offers two chances to catch the Cleveland premiere of The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology – the sequel to The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema.

Both films are directed by Sophie Fiennes and star charismatic Slovenian psychoanalyst and cultural theorist Slavoj Zizek.  Zizek uses scenes from classic films to discuss how these fictional stories determine our real concepts of ideology, and shape our beliefs and customs.

Be sure to bring a friend or a date; this is one of those movies you’ll be happy to have someone to discuss it with afterwards. Haven’t seen The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema yet?  Don’t worry, these films can stand alone.  However, after you see The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology, you’ll probably rush home to order it on Netflix or Amazon.
