The Akron Civic Theatre is one of the last of the great movie palaces of the 1920s, with its ornate Moorish décor and distinctive ceiling that features moving clouds floating across a star-lit sky. Fully renovated in 2002 after threats of demolishment, it’s more beautiful than ever.
The 5,000 capacity venue has hosted many major concerts over the years, but it’s a multipurpose venue which also books ballet, theater, special events, high school graduations and a series of intimate cabaret shows with seating set up on its ample stage.
