Thu 1/23 @ 8PM
The Cleveland Institute of Music’s Mixon Hall Master Series has a very particular slant. It’s featuring artists who are known both as composers and as master musicians on their instruments. Each is performing familiar repertoire with a distinctive slant mixed with their own compositions to give the audience insight into their musical process.
The next musician to be featured is Venezuela-born, Massachusetts-based pianist Gabriela Montero, who has performed with orchestras around the world including the Cleveland Orchestra. The internationally celebrated performer, known for her improvisational skills as well as her interpretations, has only recently begun to compose her own music, starting with LaPatria, a work for piano and orchestra.
She’ll be showcasing all these sides of her art when she performs at CIM’s Mixon Hall this week. Tickets are $28 and $40. Call the CIM box office at 216-795-3211.
In addition to the concert, she’ll be giving a master class at CIM the previous afternoon, which is free and open to the public.
