Choruses Honor Mother and Child @ClevelandArt

Sat 12/14 @ 2PM

The audience for the Mother and Child choral music program at the Cleveland Museum of Art, inspired by artworks in the museum collection depicting Mary and Jesus, won’t be sitting in one place.

The concert will take place successively in multiple locations in the museum, starting with the Reid Gallery — the light-drenched former Garden Court. There Quire Cleveland will sing works by 16th-century composer Palestrina, surrounded by 17th-century European masterworks.

The concert then moves to the museum’s new atrium wher the Cleveland Orchestra Youth and Children’s Choruses will sing music by such contemporary composers as Morten Lauridsen, Arvo Pärt, Gian Carlo Menotti, and John Rutter.

Finally organist/conductor Todd Wilson will lead the Trinity Cathedral Choir in Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols in the Gartner Auditorium. That program will also include music for organ and brass.

An hour prior to the concert, curator of medieval Art Stephen Fliegel will give a talk on Virgin and Child imagery in art in the Recital Hall.

The event is free, and no ticket is required.
