Earlier this year, Brielle Naji had a wonderful idea. She wanted to curate an art show at her father’s art gallery – Loren Naji Studio Gallery in Ohio City. In addition, this father and daughter duo decided all the artwork would be produced by local children between the ages of 5-13 years old. They even figured out a way to sell each work for $20 and still give money to both the artists and charity.
The coolest part, however, is that Brielle is only 10 years old.
Brielle Naji is a 5th grader at Kirtland Elementary School Aside from being a talented young artist and curator, she has been taking piano lessons for 6 years, rides both English and Western-style horseback, competes on swim team and plays the clarinet in the school band. She is one talented (and busy) young lady.
“This show is aiming to make money for kids with cancer,” explains Brielle Naji. “It is also giving kids a chance to put their artwork in a real art gallery. I hope that this show will be fun and helpful to kids with cancer. I would want people to be thinking of me if I had cancer. I wish to make a change in the world.”
Cleveland Kids Create will benefit Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Founded in 1992, Bear Necessities is a national, nonprofit organization that provides assistance through its Bear Hugs Program and Bear Discoveries. Each Bear Hug is a unique, customized experience designed to elevate the spirits of children going through cancer and provide support for their family’s financial burden and essential needs. Bear Discoveries provides grants nationwide for research towards a cure and therapies for pediatric cancers.
“This show originated from my 10-year-old daughter’s idea that I host a children’s art show. Well, what a great idea!” explains Loren Naji. “This is evolving into something very special. My daughter is now the curator of this exciting event. This is a show for the holidays, for our children and to help children with cancer!
“What a perfect combination of benefits this show will provide,” continues the father of the curator. “All at once, it will give kids an opportunity to display their art professionally, experience the pride and joy of helping others, learn the value of art, learn that they can make a change and they will enjoy a great kids party event! I am proud that my daughter thought of the idea to have a kids art show!”
