Cape Breton Fiddling Takes Centerstage @ClevelandArt

Fri 11/15 @ 7:30PM

The next presentation in the Cleveland Museum of Art’s ongoing Masters of the Fiddle series features a pair of fiddlers who are extremely well known in Celtic, bluegrass, Cajun, and Cape Breton folk music circles.

Both come from deeply musical roots in Canada. Ontatio-based Leahy Ontario plays with his seven siblings in a band that carries their last name. He discovered Nova Scotia native MacMaster after hearing a tape of her playing, being impressed and deciding to meet her. She has since become a leading star of Cape Breton fiddle music, a genre with roots in Celtic music.

And while the two have separate musical lives, they also come together from time to time to meld their talents. The Cleveland Museum of Art show at Gartner Auditorium is one of those times. They’ll be joined by pianists Mac Morin and Erin Leahy for an evening of Cape Breton music.

Prior to the concert at 6 pm, CMA curator of performing arts and music Massoud Saidpour will conduct a conversation with Leahy and MacMaster.

Tickets are $39–$59.
