Baritone Sax Star Lauren Sevian Makes Her Cleveland Debut at Nighttown

Sat 11/9 @ 8:30PM

Don’t let her striking good looks fool you.

Lauren Sevian’s credentials on her chosen instrument — the formidable baritone sax — are jaw-dropping.

She was performing professionally before she was a teenager, winning awards and playing venues like Carnie Hall and Lincoln Center even before she arrived at the Manhattan School of Music, where she got her degree in 2001. Shortly after graduating, she became a member of the Mingus Big Band.

She’s stayed busy since then adding her distinctive sound to music by numerous artists on stage and on record, performing at major jazz festivals in the U.S. and Europe, doing a stint with the Christian McBride Big Band.

She also has a couple of quartets of her own, teaches, and conducts clinics. No wonder she hasn’t had a chance to get to Cleveland yet.

That changes this week when she makes her local debut at Nighttown. She’ll be backed by a trio of local all-stars: pianist Joe Hunter, acoustic bassist Peter Dominguez, and drummer Glenn Davis.

Tickets are $15.
