Northeast Ohio has a treasure in Morgan Art of Papermaking. This unassuming warehouse on Cleveland’s near east side houses an institution dedicated to the conservation and education of papermaking and books.
Every detail of the paper and bookmaking process is cultivated here, starting with the garden out back. There Japanese kozo trees are grown, the bark of which provides fibers for making paper in a traditional handmade Japanese style. Inside is a papermaking area where pulp fibers are beaten out and mixed, then handmade into fine artistic papers. The Morgan offers classes too and houses a gallery where it shows the work of artists who use handmade paper.
Hours: Tue – Sat 10am – 4pm.
