Bascule Brewery and Public House in Lorain, which opened in early 2018 as Lorain’s first brewery in more than 100 years, is a small, friendly and comfortable ramshackle place, with an improvised feel far from some of the large slick “micro” breweries springing up around the region.
With donated, mismatched furniture and a brewing operation that almost feels like it could be in your basement, owners Fred Lozano and Chris Kambouris created a spot that feels like a microbrewery version of the old-fashioned corner bar, offering a rotting variety of half a dozen beers on tap. Their brews can also be found at a dozen or so other establishments around Lorain County.
