MOCA hosts its latest Distinguished Lecture with Eve Ashcraft — the nation’s most sought-after color authority. Ashcraft will discuss the significance of color on our experiences and surroundings. From the hues we select for our bedrooms to the bold blue interior of MOCA’s new building, Ashcraft will describe the impact of color on our emotional, physical, and psychological states.
For 18 years, Ashcraft has consulted with designers, architects, private clients, and businesses on colors for everything from interiors, exteriors, and corporate branding to paint lines and knitting yarn. Ashcraft earned a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. After working as a professional artist, she shifted her practice to color consultation.
Among her projects, she worked with Richard Avedon on typeface palettes for his book covers, determined the ideal shade of cream for watchfaces for Banana Republic, developed palettes for Martha Stewart Living’s inaugural paint lines: the Araucana Colors and Everyday Colors, and advised Ralph Lauren on its most recent collections.
Ashcraft released her first book, The Right Color in November 2011. The same season, she launched her own line of paint, Eve Ashcraft Color: The Essential Palette, produced by Fine Paints of Europe.
