British Blues Godfather John Mayall at Akron’s Tangier

Wed 10/16 @ 8PM

John Mayall was the lodestar of ’60s British blues rock, when it seemed like every other superstar had done a stint in his Bluesbreakers.

He certainly had an ear for talent, giving a start to players like Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Cream’s Jack Bruce, and a trio of Fleetwood Mac members: Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. Over his long career, he’s worked with close to a hundred musicians and made dozens of albums.

Now 79, Mayall has never stopped playing the blues — though he’s augmented it with jazz, pop, and soul at times. He doesn’t tour as much as he used to, but he still hits the road from time to time.

He’ll be at the Tangier in Akron. Cleveland’s Alan Green band opens.

Tickets are $30-$45.
