A Tribute to Jose Guadalupe Posada

Sun 10/20 @ 1pm

Sandusky Cultural Center presents its latest large-scale group exhibition – A Tribute to Jose Guadalupe Posada.  Posada was a Mexican cartoonist, illustrator and printmaker whose work has influenced generations of Latin American artists. Posada’s best known engravings are his “Calaveras,” which often assume various costumes, such as the Calavera de la Catrina, the “Skull of the Female Dandy,” which was meant to satirize the life of the upper classes. Since his death his images have become associated with the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos — the “Day of the Dead.”

Sandusky Cultural Center has invited a diverse group of current artists to honor the 100th anniversary of Posada’s death in 1913 with an exhibit celebrating his influence.

Participating artists include Linda Ayala, Marsha Gray Carrington, Sean Carroll, Hector Castellanos-Lara, Daniel Corrigan, R!ch Cihlar, John Gulyas & Maryann Posch, Joshua Haplea, Nina Vivian Huryn, Salavador Jimenez, George Kocar, Craig Matis, Amanda Plavan, Dante Rodriguez, Noah Scalin, Andrew Shannon and Gary Spinosa.

The exhibition and artist reception are free and open to the public.  Additional hours Sunday-Friday 1-4pm through November 24th.
