Zappa Comes Alive as GrandMothers of Invention Play the Beachland

Fri 9/20 @ 8PM

Since avant-garde composer and founder of the uncategorizable ’60s/’70s group Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa died in 1993, it falls to others to keep his music in front of audiences.

The GrandMothers of Invention say they’re the “only Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention alumna who have consistently been performing the music of the maestro since 2003. They are THE authentic live version of Zappa’s music.”

The group includes keyboard/synth player Don Preston who played with the early version (late ’60s-early-mid ’70s) of the band, and Napoleon Murphy Brock, who played tenor flute and sang and sang with Zappa from 1974-1984.

The GrandMothers have an extensive repertoire of Zappa/Mothers material from all eras. On the current tour they’re performing the Mothers of Invention’s final studio album, 1975’s One Size Fits All, in its entirely. They’ll be rounding out the set with other Zappa “hits.”

Cleveland’s Home and Garden opens.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of show.
