Walk an entire mile of beach at Ohio’s widest beach, Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor. For a good old-fashioned summer day, pack a cooler of cold drinks and sandwiches and get to the park early to claim a picnic table. Sit in the water and scrunch your toes in the sand, look for beach glass, float on your back parallel to shore. Lay on a blanket and soak up the rays while reading a summer romance or spicy mystery. Then enjoy that food when the appetite as spiked.
Interestingly, the area is home to many plant species typically found only on the Atlantic Coast, and it feels as if the ocean was transported to Ohio when you see the lake spread out before you and hear the sound of the surf.
