Lera Auerbach Opens CIM Composer/Virtuoso Series

Tue 9/17 @ 8PM

The Cleveland Institute of Music’s 2013-2014 Mixon Hall Masters Series, titled Return of the Composer/Virtuoso, aims to show audiences that great classic composing didn’t end with Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev. The concerts will present the work of composers working today.

The series kicks off with Russian pianist/composer Lera Auerbach, the first of four artists in the series.

The 39-year-old composer has come a long way from her originals in an industrial city near Siberia. She’s made good use of her Juilliard degrees in piano and composition, building a reputation as both a concert performer and a composer of pieces for orchestras, small ensembles, solo artists, and ballet. She’s collaborated with many musicians including Cleveland-raised international star cellist Alisa Weilerstein.

In addition to her concert at CIM’s Mixon Hall, Auerbach will hold a master class at CIM at 1:30 PM the day following her recital. That is free and open to the public.

Tickets to the concert are $28 and $40. Call the CIM box office weekdays from 10am-3pm at  216.795.3211.
