There’s no one named Peter James in Akron quartet Peter James & His Flapping Wings. The down-home acoustic folk ensemble includes a Billy, an Alex, a Luke, and a Nick.
And those guys have a new EP called Caldwell House, named after a street in Wooster where two of the four tracks were recorded. Those tracks were recorded in living rooms and a basement, as well as a recording studio, and all are redolent of that environment: casual, homey, and uncontrived, with some old-fashioned country-fried flavor. The very titles of the tunes reveal what the music sounds like: “Tennessee,” “My Love Was a Good One,” “he Ballad,” “Wild Wind.”
The band’s celebrating the official release of Caldwell House with a show at Akron’s Musica. They’ll be joined there by Buffalo Haze and Taylor Lamborn.
Tickets are $10.
