Raspberries Guitarist Wally Bryson Rocks the Winchester

Sat 8/24 @ 9PM

Guitarist Wally Bryson was the engine that fueled Cleveland’s beloved and influential Raspberries, whose signature power pop is still spoken of reverently in some circles. Say what you will about Eric Carmen’s songwriting, the band would have lacked crispness and sizzle without Bryson’s guitar.

That was a long time ago, although I heard their 1972 top 5 hit “Go All the Way,” in a supermarket just last month. The ’berries broke up in 1975.

But Bryson is a lifer with a passion for music, and he’s never stopped playing. After a couple of ’70s recording projects, Tattoo and Fotomaker, Bryson settled into a quiet life in his native Mentor. And while he may no longer have focused on being a rock star, he always continued to play music for his own enjoyment — and that of the fans who sought out his gigs.

He’ll be playing at the Winchester  with the Wally Bryson Band, comprising a batch of other area music scene veterans: Billy Sullivan, Bill March, Ed Brown and Rich Spina.

Tickets are $20.
