In early 2019, the Kensington Pub in Cleveland Heights’ Cedar Lee district flung open its doors — and windows, after a long haul in rehabbing the space that houses the Tavern Company for 35 years (it closed in 2016 and moved into the Colony spot acrss the street). Obviously a lot of work was needed in a space that hadn’t changed in so long, and part of that included new wall of windows that opened the pub up to the world and brought in light.
Although the décor is sleekly and chic-er, the basis of the business remains comfy neighborhood pub, the kind of place where all the locals feel at home. There’re games on TV, a dozen beers on tap to choose from and a full menu of food selections — salads, sandwiches, appetizers and entrees — that don’t contain puzzling ingredients and merit that overused term “comfort food.” Steaks, chips, grilled cheese, stuffed peppers, burgers and more, with a bottle of wine, make for a relaxing evening out.
