Drummer Joe Vitale graduated from his teenage bands in Canton in the ’60s before he landed a gig with Joe Walsh’s newly formed Barnstorm in 1972.
That launched him on a career as a sideman for acts like Crosby, Stills and Nash, the Eagles, Peter Frampton, Dan Fogelberg, and John Entwistle. Somewhere in there, he found time to form his own band and release a couple of solo albums.
Now his son, Joe Vitale Jr., is following in his footsteps. Joe Jr. has joined his dad on the road as a percussionist or Joe Walsh and Steve Stills. Like his father, he is a multi-instrumentalist and he too has branched out from sideman work to releasing a solo album.
And he has also formed a live band, the Joe Vitale Jr. Band, to perform his own material. They will be performing this week as part of the Akron Rib Fest at Lock 3 Live. They’ll play at 6 pm, followed by Pink Floyd Tribute The Machine at 8.
It’s free.
