Silvestro’s Depot Café started as a workman’s bar and Italian restaurant back in the mid 1930s, serving those who came through Painesville on its then well-traveled rail line. There’s not much rail traffic anymore, but the unpretentious joint is still operated by one of the sons and grandchildren of the original owner who opened it way back when. Italian entrees still dominate, along with all-American favorites like prime rib, pork chops and Lake Erie perch. Can you get a hamburger here? What do you think? Come here for a taste of old northeast Ohio, back when hard-working immigrants built the region.
