Three guitarists in different styles with separate solo careers will perform as Guys With Guitars for Akron Civic Theatre’s next cabaret performance.
Doug Wood, Darren Frate, and Ben Lapps have all built considerable reputations on their own.
Guitarist Wood and bassist Frate, both from Cleveland, played together in jazz/fusion ensemble Watts Gnu in the ’90s.
Berklee grad Frate has played with a long list of artists including Ian Hunter, Mitch Ryder, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Dickie Betts, and Leslie Gore.
Wood has had a prolific solo career that includes three albums and numerous appearances at clubs, festivals, colleges and arts series. His melodic instrumental music has been heard on numerous PBS/NPR programs.
Lapps, based in Mason, Ohio, has achieved renown as an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist. Only 19, he has two albums (the first recorded when he was just 14) and a host of high-profile national appearances under his belt.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 day of show for the performance with will take place in the theater’s intimate cabaret set-up.
