Longstanding Cleveland Memorial Day weekend tradition, the Great American Rib Cook-Off, is officially the Marc’s Great American Rib Cookoff & Music Festival.

That indicates that, while the food is abundant, so is the music. There are always name headlines on the big stage at Nautica. This year they include Rick Springfield (Fri 5/24 @ 9pm), Buddy Guy (Sun 5/26 @ 9pm), and Bret Michaels of Poison (Mon 5/27 @ 6pm). And the Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Cleveland School of the Arts Choir will headline the main stage Fri 5/24 @ 8:30 pm with their Rocktopia production.

But you don’t have to wait for nightfall to listen to some great music while you chow down on your ribs.

On Saturday and Sunday from 1-6 pm, the Roots of American Music Acoustic Dining Tent will present a program on how American roots music evolved from Britain and Africa, plus sets by top area acoustic performers like Brent Kirby, Diana Chittester, Chris Allen, and Austin Walkin’ Cane Charanghat.

And the House of Blues stage will offer an array of local talent all four days, ranging from a Rolling Stones tribute set on Friday evening led by Jm Tigue and Eroc Sosinski of Wish You Were Here, to up-and-coming young artists like the Chardon Polka Band (Saturday), Bethesda (Sunday), The Modern Electric (Sunday), Winslow (Monday), and Noize From the Basement, who won this year’s High School Rock Off (Monday). You might discover your new favorite local band.

Tickets are only $5 with a coupon from Marc’s or online. Entertainment is included, although you can pay extra and sit down front in a reserved section for the mainstage concerts.
