The artist formerly known as Mr. Downchild arrived in Cleveland in the mid-’80s because, he claims, he wanted to meet Robert Lockwood Jr. The London-born singer-guitarist-harmonica player, whose real name was Stephen Brazier, quickly became a prominent part of the local blues scene and ended up settling in Cleveland when he met his wife Marilyn here.
His debut album, They Call Me Mr. Downchild, came out in 1994; Lockwood contributed some guitar. He released two more studio albums and a live album, and toured heavily — until Marilyn’s death in 2005. Devastated by her loss, he stepped away from music.
Early last year, he took a few baby steps back into the local music scene, and now he’s back full-tilt. He’s got a new stage name — Steev Inglish — a new album, Nothin’ But the Blues, recorded live at his first comeback show at the Winchester Music Hall in March 2012, and a DVD recorded live at the Winchester in December.
Tonight he’s back at the Winchester once again to celebrate the release of the album and the DVD. Admission is $10.
