It’s been a long time coming, but Bill Madansky’s rib joint, Blitz BBQ, quietly opened last week on Waterloo Road directly across from the Beachland Ballroom. Hoping to catch some pre- and post-concert business, he’ll be open from 11AM to 1AM seven days a week. He’ll have a grand opening event at 6PM Fri 2/15, with various friends, family members, and community leaders in attendance.
Madansky decided to open his own place after doing well at special events like the Waterloo Arts Fest with his menu of pulled pork, jerk chicken, vegetarian stir fry and baby back ribs with his own special barbeque sauce. He optimistically announced a summer 2009 opening, but setbacks in financing and construction in the building owned by Northeast Shores CDC kept pushing the date back. Those who thought it would never happen didn’t know Madansky’s determination and all the work and planning he’s put into this project.
The Blitz BBQ name has a rock and roll connection. Bill’s older brother John Madansky was ‘Johnny Blitz’ of the Dead Boys, and Bill was an avid follower of the band.
