United for Cleveland’s Hub

As you may know, Cleveland’s Hopkins International Airport is home to one of United Airline’s 10 hubs. Think about that — a hub is pretty rare considering how many airports exist in the country.

Hubs are so important that, according to research conducted by InterVISTAS, a transport and tourism consultant, the United hub generates $4 billion in annual economic impact for its region.

So, what would Hopkins look like if we lost our hub?

According to ThePlus, “While Cleveland Hopkins (CLE) currently boasts 70 non-stop flights and nearly 250 daily departures, community leaders project that these numbers could be reduced by half if CLE were to lose its United hub. Ultimately, this would result in higher ticket fees and reduced convenience for all travelers. What is more, many fear that the loss of the United hub would extend beyond Cleveland Hopkins’ boarders and hit the entire Northeast Ohio economy.”
