Youngtown has the first museum of American art, and The Butler Institute is one of a handful of art museums in the country that is free of charge. Find out about the 75th Annual Midyear Exhibition which, although being a national show, features prominently artists from right here in NEO. Watch the video by Cool Cleveland correspondent Carol Drummond here.
Also of note at the museum is an astounding display of water colors that are photo-realistic, demonstrating extreme control of the medium, by Gregory Strachov; NEO’s own Phyllis Seltzer’s heat transfer prints of mostly-Cleveland cityscapes that sizzle with eye-popping colors; and the many recognizable pieces throughout the museum by such well known artists as Andy Worhal, Edward Hopper, Mary Cassatt, Romare Beardon and the list goes on.
Just an hour and a half drive on the turnpike and you can experience first hand what has been described as “America’s Museum”. Youngstown’s Butler Institute of American Art is located 524 Wick Avenue and is free and open to the public. Ffind out more about the 75th Annual Midyear Show, June 28 – August 28, 2011 here.
