Construction began Mon 1/3 and the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center is expected to open in the Fall of 2013. Amongst the hoopla and pronouncements from the stage was an announcement from Christopher Kennedy, President of MMPI (Merchandise Mart Properties Inc.), the Chicago-based for-profit managers of the Mart & Center, of letters of intent for the Medical Mart’s first 57 tenants and 31 conventions and trade shows, about half of which are locally-based medical companies (Steris Corp, Invacare, OrthoHelix Surgical Design, Hyland Software) and health care, trade associations and economic development groups (BioEnterprise, ASM International, CWRU, Cleveland Clinic, Tri-C, MetroHealth System, Sisters of Charity Health System, TeamNEO, University Hospitals, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, National Model Railroad Association, Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland, Ohio Music Education Association, Stella Maris).
Among the guests at the formal groundbreaking for the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center were politicians, health care executives, entrepreneurs and a phalanx of hard-hatted construction workers.
