Galactic Moustache
We all have our passions, and it is clear within the first .005 seconds of Cleveland’s Galactic Moustache’s debut album, Star Seed, what theirs is: SPACE. A collaboration (or “cosmic partnership,” as they call it) of Photon Man and Buckner Oblivion, Galactic Moustache boasts more than just cosmic tunes, but incorporates rock, rap and electronica into the seven songs featured on Star Seed. In your interest, they’ll be playing an Earth show on Sun 1/23 at the Grog Shop.
Stylistically, the album sounds like Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park in a jam session at the Mos Eisley Cantina. It’s typical rock with estranged lyrics written in attempt to make the vocalists seem as badass and rule-disregarding as possible. They sing of the ignorance of society, “Generation MTV,” ethics and similar subject matter that numerous bands have harped on about. Rhyming is a priority, to be expected with a rap ensemble, but there are a lot of stretches. Heavy synth alters the vocals and brings new characters into each song.
There’s a lot going on.
Expect the music to dim and make way for motivational speeches: “Recruitment is at an all time high. We lack central leadership. Organization breeds infiltration. You will be responsible for your own weapons and uniforms. Make no mistake, this job is dangerous. Trust in your instincts and remember your training.”
They attempt to drop intellectual statements during several of the songs, intent on making us ponder the vastness of the galaxy — but they’ve seemed to have picked one line from the encyclopedia and driven the point home… to grandmas… and to the guy that sold you your shoes. “The sun is a star in our galaxy, the planets and the moons are the apogee. When the sun dies it will swallow us all, collapsing into a big black hole.” Repeat this several times and reiterate with a serious speech recited over a music bed. The motivation behind their band and subject matter remains unknown.
If you’re sick of the same old love ballads, stories about life and occurrences within our own atmosphere, you’ve been granted the opportunity to see Galactic Moustache this Sun 1/23 at the Grog Shop. Galactic Moustache will be sharing the stage with Cleveland musicians the Red Buttons, the Poland Invasion, and Cereal Banter. Download the album for free at http://GalacticMoustache.com.
