Celebrating their second year of classes, exhibitions, paper production, letterpress printing and their first kozo tree harvest, Morgan Art of Papermaking is opening its doors and inviting the public for a peek at what goes on inside their East 47th Street warehouse. The open house includes an auction of a collection of items, called the Snail Mail Paper Trail, which is crafted by artists from all over the country and made from the Morgan’s handmade papers.
Inside, visitors will be treated to live demonstrations of paper making, hors d’oeuvres, live big-band music, cash bar, raffles, a silent auction and more. Meanwhile outside, visitors can meander through the garden, which is planted with kozo trees. The fiber of these trees is used in Japanese papermaking.
Watch the video as CoolCleveland correspondent Carol Drummond speaks with Tom Balbo about this interesting organization and the exciting benefit with bookbinding, letterpress and papermaking demonstrations, along with a silent auction, jewelry, and the Snail Mail Paper Trail, where they have sent out paper to artists, who have used it to create art which can be bid on.
Join the celebration this Sat 10/2 @ 6PM at 1754 East 47th Street, Cleveland. Parking is on East 45th. Kindly RSVP to rsvp@morganconservatory.org. More info at http://www.MorganConservatory.org.
