Artistic Attention Deficit Disorder takes over Wall Eye Gallery
Artistic Attention Deficit Disorder, is the term Joe Ayala coined to describe his collection of paintings, drawings and prints produced between 2004 and 2010, which are the feature of his first solo exhibition in five years: Joe Ayala: MMIV-MMX. From classical portrait drawings to color-filled pop art and abstract paintings, each piece in the show serves as an individual episode to the artist’s freedom of expression and experimentation.
Walking through the gallery, the viewer is transported from the classical to the modern, the dead to the living, and the natural to the unnatural with each work. Utilizing themes like history, beauty, humor and death, Ayala’s art is never over-academic. Instead, his audience is sucked in by bold figures and strong colors, wooed by subtle prints and portraits and struck by strong statements about the artist’s world found throughout the works. Ayala’s art is an emotional experience.
CoolCleveland correspondent Julie Cajigas caught up with Ayala for an interview; check out the video here.
