Learn About How the Ohio Supreme Court Impacts Citizens at Beachwood Forum

Thu 6/27 @ 6:30-8PM

If you’ve followed state of Ohio news at all, you know that the state supreme court has a huge influence on issues that impact our lives. Just two years, it was in the news when it had to consider the unconstitutionally gerrymandered legislative and congressional districts drawn by partisan politicians to protect their own interests — not those of the state’s citizens. The breakdown of the justices’ votes revealed how partisan the state has become, as did the failure of Justice Pat DeWine to recuse himself —his father was part of the group of gerrymandering politicians.

And many people are familiar with its 1997 DeRolfe decision, which found that Ohio’s unequal method of school funding was unconstitutional. Sadly, in both cases, it had no enforcement mechanism and politicians have ignored both decisions.

To learn more about what is going on with the supreme court, come to the Beachwood Community Center to hear from two current justices running for reelection and Judge Lisa Forbes who is running for a seat on the supreme court (All are Democrats.) They’ll explain how the court’s decisions affect Ohioans and what to expect from it looking ahead.

It’s free and open to all.
