The pandemic caused a lot of changes in the Rock Hall’s annual induction event. Originally scheduled for the spring (when all its previous inductions have taken place), it was to have returned to Cleveland’s Public Hall, with a series of induction-week events that opened up ways for the public to participate outside of the excusive, high-dollar ceremony itself.
When it became clear we were going to be locked down for more than a couple of months, the induction events were moved to the fall, and eventually took place as an HBO broadcast special in November with no live component.
Now more changes are afoot. The Rock Hall already announced that the 36th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony would again be in the fall and that it would be in Cleveland.
Now it’s announced an official date — October 30, 2021 — and it’s also revealed that it will be held for the first time at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, making tickets more available to the general public, similar to the Alternative Music awards, and the ceremony less of an industry schmooze-a-thon and more of a concert-style event.
Once again, the 2021 nominees are Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, rhe Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, JAY-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Dionne Warwick. Inductees will be announced in May.
