Webinar Explores Why Climate Change Is Hard to Talk About

Tue 3/23 @ 6PM

Some issues are controversial, while others have been controversialized, sometimes  by a media hungry for a “both sides” spin, other times by bad faith actors.

In the case of climate change, it’s largely the latter, grounded either in profit or ideology (or the ideology of profit). The climate denier industry is loud but doesn’t have much basis in fact.

Why is it so hard to talk about climate change then? That’s the topic of an online webinar hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs has joined with community partner The Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University.

As they point out, everything regarding climate change has become politically divisive,” often dishonestly so. That throws up additional challenges to the cooperative global response needed to address what needs to be done to fight climate change.

The program’s presenter is retired foreign service officers and current scholar with the Middle East Institute Molly Williamson, who will look at what’s keeping policy makers and political leaders from making progress on the issue. She has served under six presidents.

The event is free but registration is required. Go here to register. Go here for more information.
